SANIBEL SHARK/TARPON

Another great weekend in SW Florida! The threadfins are thick at the Sanibel Causeway and make

for great Tarpon and Shark bait. Headed out to Knapps point on Saturday morning and joined approx

25 boats already there. We saw several large fish (Tarpon) hooked and released in about 17 feet of

water.

We ended up catching a large nurse shark about 7 feet long that ate a mullet head fished on the

bottom. After an hour or so we headed inside looking for Snook and Reds. Just can't quite figure the

pattern out this spring. Ended up finding several pods of large Snook in a series of potholes near

blind pass. They were eating and we had fun with them. I really think threadfins make great Snook

bait in the spring as the Snook try to put on extra weight.

Sunday we decided to take "Mom" up to Boca Grande Pass to watch the Tarpon. Boy were they active

with hundreds of them rolling and jumping near the phosphate docks. Ended up hooking one of them

but just couldn't get into the crowd and number of boats racing to the fish as they surfaced. I know

that's how its done, but its just not me. We fished some of the Captiva Pass docks and pulled out the

perfect tourney red along with a nice fat healthy Snook.

Ended up fishing on the outside of Tarpon Bay and catching two bonnet head sharks and a couple of

big trout on the last of our threadfins. The trouble with this time of year is there are just too many

species, too many choices, too many fish to choose from! I find if I don't have a game plan when I

leave the dock I just don't get a chance to try everything available. Tonight my son and I are taking a

couple dozen hand picked shrimp and hitting some of the Cape Coral docks before bed. We saw an

awful lot of big Snook under the lights last night on the way home..... I will be spending most of

today thinking about those fish.... can't wait until dark. :)
